Folks have asked what Operation Hawkeye is...
On August 6, 2011, 31 highly decorated U.S. special operations warriors
gave their lives in Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom. It was the
deadliest day to date in that conflict, and the largest single-day loss of
Navy SEALs in the history of that elite unit. Will Thomas, a 7th Grade boy
from Virginia, moved by the courage of the fallen and empathy for those
left behind, initiated Operation Hawkeye: a mission honoring the fallen and
rallying emotional and financial support for their loved ones using the
sport of basketball, working with the Navy SEAL Foundation other major
organizations, as well as the national grassroots community. Details on
this mission, which has expanded from an initial focus on the 17 fallen
Navy SEALs to encompass all the warriors involved in the mission, can be
found at Operation Hawkeye | Facebook. A CNN feature on Operation
Hawkeye can also be found at Hoops for Seals
