Default USP Combat Competition 9mm -vs- Springfield Armory XDM 5.25 9mm

Had the chance to shoot the new Springfield XD(M) 5.25 (9mm) yesterday at the range (Armory, Bellevue, WA) and compare it to my H&K USP Combat Competition (9mm)

I have to say I was impressed with the Springfield. Overall it is a bit larger than my USP, (although the grip is smaller in diameter) the barrel is an inch longer, similar blacked out rear sight with novak fiber optic front sight, it has an adjustable rear sight and its metal magazine holds 19 rounds. Oh, and they call the trigger a match trigger. They claim the reset is shorter than any other polymer pistol.

After shooting both, there were zero malfunctions from either pistol. My USP Combat Competition's trigger feels much better to me and the reset on it is 75% shorter than the Springfield. So much for their claim. I also noticed less recoil with my USP and I also shot my USP better, tighter groups than the Springfield. I was shooting paper from 15-20 yards and what can I say I love my USP.

I will say I would prefer my USP any day of the week. However, for the price and what you get, the Springfield is a very nice choice. I enjoyed shooting both side to side, and my USP just feels best in my hand and to my eye.

Under the newest USPSA rulling the expert is considered production legal, that is really a better compairison to the 5.25.

Everyone seemed to have bought them at the USPSA club I shoot at.. out of 28 competitors last night I was 2nd lossing to a very nice STI Edge... and a shooter with many more years of competition under his belt.. I shoot my buddies 5.25, its ok, but I would not jump ship. I did not think it shot any better than my expert. Trigger was ok but I dont recall being like "Wow, thats a great trigger". I have played with many glocks where I have said that.\

Its a great value package I think. It was give alot of people a great entry point into competition shooting, but its not my cup of tea.

well, if I had an expert I might be able to compare them. Since I do not, you get my USP CC review. You may take it or leave it.

My USP9 Combat Comp has got to be my favorite HK ever! That hybrid match/LEM trigger has yet to be matched by any other gun I've handled, by ANY maker. Combine that with the fiber optic, and I think the combination is tough to beat.
In my case, I do own the Experts, both in 9 and 40. Yes, the greater sight radius is nice, and the single action trigger is almost 1911-esque, but the reset is still longer than the CC. LOVE all my HKs!!

Burton, thanks for a great range review!! (I've got an older XD9 that does a great job serving as my truck gun.)

P.S. Wow, Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!
Lord, help me to be half the man my dog thinks I am!
