Very nice writeup - thanks for the great detail. Ghillie did a great job and you have a beautiful shooter. Raylene isn't bad either...
This is my range report of the Ghillie built G3k.
This started out as a PTR91k which I bought off a Dr. shooting buddy of mine. He wanted to use it for 3-gun but later decided to go with a SCAR Heavy. Nice to have friends that didn't suffer as much through the recession. Well when I bought it he also sold me 1000 rounds of SA surplus too, along with all the accessories he had accumulated. Pretty much I got an awesome deal. Or so I thought.
Went to the range stoked to finally have my dream rifle. I've wanted one since the movie "Deal of the Century" when I was 12. Well I loaded up the magazines and began blasting. The fourth round failed to eject. Then the fifth, and so on and so on. Damnit I've got the shallow flutes and thousands of tar sealed surplus. What to do? Well at this time in my life my wife decided she didn't like being married anymore, here come the lawyer fees.
Well turns out I bought a C93 when they first hit the market, but never really got to shoot it much. It had the horrible bolt gap issues, and my solution was just plus size rollers. I had taken it to the range the same day, and low and behold it would shoot 6 before it started having problems. Now Panic stricken I get back on my trusty 'puter and hit Ghillie up.
He gave me a shout, and with a little trading invloved he would fix my rifle at the expense of her little sister. Sounded good to me, and off she went. Hit RTG up and HKParts.net for a new barrel, and such and forwarded them on to Ghillie.
3 weeks later a knock at my door, and OMG it was like christmas in june.
After cleaning lubing putting it all together.
Well off to the range I went.
Setup my chrono, a target at 50yrds, and began to get into my flow. Pulled the sweet Msg90 triggerand was rewarded with a bullet strike 5in high and 2in left. Pulled the trigger again and click. OH **** what just happened. I ejected the spent round it was extremely sooted and fluted, so I adjusted 6x SWFA down and right and boom right in the center. Now one more for good measure and click. Damnit, now I'm starting to freak out. To make the long story longer, I tried an HKbolt/carrier I had as a spare, same thing over and over for 20 rounds of Mixed SA,Port,Win, & Wolf loads.
I immediately texted Ghillie, and went up to the club house to talk to the girls. Must of been all of 5mins when Jeff called me back. He's almost as hysterical as me, don't know what's going on. He had put about 50 thru no problems. Well we talked about things that could be wrong, what parts to check and how to clean it with a .45brush, and then the KEY to this hole mess. LUBE, DON'T SPRAY MPRO OR ANYTHING ELSE ALL OVER BOLT AND CHAMBER. UREKA!!!! I had lubed the crap out of both.
Well day was still early so I ran home and scrubbed all of the gunk I had self inflicted on my poor girl and loaded up about 5 Magazine. Went back to the range, this time the Action Pistol so I could be alone. Set up a target at about 60yrds. Crossed my fingers and pulled the trigger, then again, and again, and again. Sweet Jesus this gun is awesome. I was using the A3 stock and iron sights at this point, but hitting was no problem off hand no sling.I shot 4 mags of twenty, and everyone went bang and ejected. Ejection started off slow 3ft right, but by the 5th mag it was throwing them at the top of the berm. I could not be happier.
Now the techy:
Velocities with a mix of ammo was 2300-2400 out of the 12.5" barrel.
I forgot to measure bolt gap till after firing. The PTR bolt was .12 while the HkBolt I sent to Jeff is .19 update after more shooting.
I didn't notice any ringing of the flashider, yet I didn't fire it without so won't know the difference till I get my SBR paperwork sent out and back
Off hand with the PRS stock it's like shooting a bullpup. All the weight being on your shoulder and swing barrel is effortless.
Paddle mag release is definitely the way to go. It doesn't rattle and is super smooth to operate.
Fit and finish are excellent. All accessories attached with ease. People always say how modular an AR15. I'm not giving up anything with the G3k
Overall this girl is a sexy shooter hence forth named Raylene! (google you'll see what I mean)

Nice piece! I've been thinking about one of them for a while now... too bad we can't do SBR's here in IA.
Lube the rails, rollers and working pieces lightly, never the bolt face or bore.. just a wipe of light oil on the metal surfaces between shoots for corrosion resistence..and run a dry patch down the bore before you put her into play. Right ghillie?
I use Royal Purple racing synthetic motor oil (5-30 or 10-40 cause I accidentally bought the non detergent type for my Sheby Cobra replica and it's on the shelf) for nearly all my gun lube applications
I named my PTR Octavia and I slept with her

Yes Virginia, there are ancient conspiracies in high places
German guns, German girls, German cars, German beer and German dogs.. what's not to like?
Nice write up NOZZLE, I,m hoping to have my G3k built soon also. I have all the parts ,including the #18 LP and RCM 12.5 CHF barrel. Im going to go with the metal welded on shell deflector and possibly a TOP welded pic rail for optics, prefereably an ACOG 5.5 .308 calibrated scope. For those man sized objects soon to be in our sights.LOL very nice.
Are you using the LP that came with the PTR or did you switch it to a #18?
Thanks.
Guy off here in AL did a G3k/93 rail he cut down UTG rails, and refinishes. I love mine. Have a 93 w/ bipod on it at the moment, but love the rail, very solid.
Btw, do you like the feel of the trigger on the gun?
