The P9K Little Known Prototype Cal. 9mm x 19/.45 ACP
Even among the most die hard P9 aficionados, one might have difficulty finding someone who is aware of the P9K series. A gun that never reached production, the P9K was an attempt by the design team headed by Theodor Koch to produce a more compact version of the P9S. As with all HK firearms, a shorter or smaller version is given the designation 'K' for Kurz or Short in German. (koorts)
Above is VM0025. Versuchsmodelle, (Fairsooks mow delluh), or 'prototype' in English. Only about four of these pistols were produced, with VM0025 above, and production numbers 500501-500503. The death of Theodor Koch on October 10, 1976 corresponded closely to the end of further development of this variant.
P9K, serial number 500 503. Note lack of manual safety.
