The new President Elect wants to have a Colombia-style amnesty and truce with the cartels and to withdraw the military from all enforcement. The Mexican military has struck virtually every telling blow so far in the struggle against the Narco-Terrorists. Lopez Obrador is confusing Organized Crime/Narco-Terrorism with an insurgency.

This is going to be a disaster. They won't stop killing each other, and anyone else they wish, regardless of what the government offers or promises them. The incoming administration is also, in some bizarre and misguided way, depicting this all as a drug dependency issue, and that they can fix it with legalization and rehab. You can't reform murderous, psychopathic drug traffickers, hitmen and kidnappers through rehab.

It's staggering that they blame Calderon for declaring a shooting war against the cartels. "Maybe we should just be nice and tolerant towards them and they'll stop dumping bodies in the street", is not an adult strategy.

Calderon was the only courageous president they have had in decades. I didn't care for a lot of his politics, but he had the stones to do the right thing to fight the Cartels, who are absolutely destroying Mexico.

What Mexico really needs is a 2nd Amendment, so that the citizenry is not afraid of the Cartels, and can defend themselves, but politically they vilify firearms possession. Barring another revolution, there is very little hope that Mexican citizenry, who are the real victims here, will ever be allowed the right to bear arms.

What you left off was that human illegal immigrant trafficking has become a major revenue source for the cartels. I hear that the cost is $2500-4000 per person to help smuggle across and that they will shoot/attack illegal immigrants on the Mexico side that try not to pay the cartel to get them across.

Maybe if Trump gets re-elected to another term we can wage a war on Mexico and take it over. Its time something happens to help those people. It is such a class system of "haves" and "have nots". The issue is so many of the "haves" are connected to the cartels. Mexico only educates to the 6th grade and most do not even have access to schools. The "haves" send their children to continued education, but the "have nots" cannot afford and only have menial jobs or are forced to come to USA to work and support their families. I will stop

The smuggling fees around here are about $5500 to $9000 per person, and the Cartels tax the smuggling organizations. In some cases lieutenants within the Cartels are actual active human smuggling bosses, but that's not the norm.

And yes they will shoot people, usually the smugglers, but often smuggled aliens too, who are not paying "plaza" to operate in their areas.

But maybe if the new administration offers them amnesty, rehab, and a job in a maquiladora ...

What a sad joke. Leave it to pack of socialists to make a critical mass situation even worse.

At least Calderon knew when folks needed shootin'.

You are right. They are so enslaved, they see guns as vilification.

A right to bear arms is key to Mexican Revolution.

Myfavorite rifle of all time is the G-3. Isn’t it the 2nd most common rifle in the world other than the AK-47? This G-3 was photographed on November 1, 2018 in Ciudad Juárez by myself.

I say this with a twinge of sadness, but I finally saw the Mexican infantrymen south of the San Ysidro Port of Entry carrying the new FX-05 rifles.

First time I haven't seen any G3's. So the new rifles finally trickled down to the dogfaces. That sure took awhile.
