I thought he was talking about the guy who isn't even a US citizen, who has TAKEN tons of money for being a bad @SS with a gun in the movies then trashes the US gun owners. You know, LILLIE LIVERED LIAM?

The new guy playing him is cool.

I agree. Iíll say this, the original Magnum, PI is my all time favorite show, and to me; Tom Selleck will always be Magnum. CBS sh!t the bed not making the follow-up Magnum movie Tom Selleck and Tom Clancy wrote in the early 90ís. They could have done movies, much like the Jesse Stone movies. But, that time has passed. Instead the toyed with the idea of doing a movie (or 2), with douche bags attached to the doomed projects..

Fast forward to current time; Tom Selleck is obligated to Blue Bloods, one of CBSís top shows. And, Tom Selleck is 73, John Hillerman is much older, and Larry Manetti and Roger E. Mosely are both up there in years as well.

So, CBS chose to contemporize the show, and re-cast the characters and made them veterans of the Global War on Terror, rather than Vietnam vets. I think they did a good job casting the characters. I like the female Higgins, throws in an interesting twist, she is former MI6 where the classic Higgins was SAS (The Regiment constantly referenced) who worked with MI6. Rick and TC, well cast.

Now, as for the Magnum roll. I think they wisely did not try to copy Selleckís Magnum. That would have been a huge mistake and failure. I like Hernandezís Magnum. His character is undeniably different, but still embodies the core of Magnum.

Oh, and the treatment the new show gave Newso, is better than the original. The Robin Masters treatment is certainly cleaner, than the original. Ice Pick was mentioned in last weeks episode, Iím curious how that will shake out. The new estate is vastly more impressive than the original, but that is just a set. Zeus and Apollo are a welcome addition

If you donít compare Hernandez to Selleck, the Magnum reboot is better than just about any other show on network tv these days. IT WILL NEVER REPLACE THE ORIGINAL, but if watched on its own merit not a comparison; it is a good show. Itís certainly better than Hawaii 5-0, that tragic show SWAT, Navy SEALs, and NBCís garbage show FBI.

Overall, the new show encapsulates the core of Magnum; friends, loyalty, doing right for the right reasons, respect to all, especially veterans, and it does this all in a generally light hearted fun ride.

The destruction of the Ferrari 308 killed a little piece of me too. When I hear Ferrari, that is the car I think of.... we also should take into account; CBS asked for Selleckís buy off before they produced the show.

Her name in the show is Kumu; her real name is Amy Hill. She was not in the original series, but she has had a very lengthy career. She was in an episode of the new 5-0.

I couldn’t agree more. Watching the 308 get destroyed was shocking, but it served notice that this wasn’t going to be the old show.
I like the new version on its own and we can still watch the old series to get the nostalgia fix with Tom Selleck!

Selleck's 1980s Magnum is far superior for sure. Nevertheless, I heard that CBS may do an episodic cross-over between Blue Blood and Magnum in the near future. That should be cool given that Selleck never quite blessed the current Magnum series.

Yes, I did! One of my fave old Magnum episodes. During the Vietnam War, Magnum, TC, and Rick are captured by the Vietcong and tortured by an East German (or Russian) advisor named Ivan, played by Bo Svenson. It's a homage to the film Stalag 17 (about WWII US POWs) which Magnum references in his always cool narrative. In the end of the story (a two-part episode if I recall), Magnum rightfully kills Ivan with his 1911, after Ivan dares him to. Great show!!
