HK demonstrators use the rifle spring in all their MP5’s – I do as well. Why does the HK factory not use the gray spring in all pistol-cal guns? Well there have been one or two cases with very weak foreign ammo that the ammo recoil impulse will not drive the bolt far/fast enough to the rear and the extractor will not snap over the rim of the round during chambering. So install that rifle spring and test fire your gun with it with your ammo. In 30+ years I have never had this happen when using the rifle spring in the MP5.

Is this true for the 40/10mm or are you just speaking to 9mm? It looks like that 40/10mm spring has a raised center with a slightly different shape.

You might not realize how old this thread is. G3Kurz stated that the rifle springs can be used in the 9mm, 10mm and 40 guns. See his post above. I switched to the rifle springs years ago in my 9mm guns with zero issues. I have not yet tried one in my 10mm but will next time it needs replaced. BTW: G3Kurz passed away and did another member on this thread a few years ago.

Yep. Switched to rifle springs for everything when shooting. When just displaying, I change out the bolt head that has the correct copper colored spring so I don’t have to field challenges from the expert World of Warcraft gamers that know everything.

The silver springs are tanks compared to the copper ones. Since I read this thread 8 years ago I’ve only shot rifle springs in my MP5’s and I don’t believe I’ve bent one while shooting...FA...maybe 50k rounds.

Miss G3K and his wisdom. Good to see Shattered Mind again!

I didn't realize that. Thank you for letting me know. I'll have to give one a try.
