Default MFI vs FAB optic mounts on a PTR-91 (early 2002 serial)

I'm going to get one of these optics mounts on my early manufacture PTR-91. SN 5XX, ~2002 manufacture if that makes any difference in case they changed the mounting tolerances over the last 15 years.

I'm trying to decide between the MFI mount and the FAB defense mount.

    MFI
-Made in USA so its probably not some airsoft quality part
-Clamps move vertically, are 'matched' to specific guns according to MFI
-Not sure how it secures the mount horizontally unless that's just dependent on the 'matched' claw profile
-More expensive by $40 (as of July 2017)

    FAB
-Made in Israel so its probably not airsoft quality(?)
-Clamp claw is pivoted so there's down force and lateral force
    -Mount is secured horizontally
-Cheaper by $40 (as of July 2017)

I'm tempted to get both but I just don't have the time to really test them against each other and provide any meaningful data.

Another option is to have a rail welded on by an HK specific gunsmith. You have a PTR and not an HK rifle so the value isn't going to be hurt by doing so and in fact might increase.

The ultimate plan is to weld a rail. This is 'temporary' but that might mean 1-2 years for me since my gunsmithing bucket list is fairly long and this isn't at the top.

I'm sure this question is still relevant for those who won't want to weld for whatever reason.

I have an MFI low profile that I used prior to getting a STANAG claw mount. It works quite well, held its position on the rifle through thousands of rounds.

I can't speak on the FAB defense model.

I didn't say it wasn't relevant, just threw out another option.

    MFI = $124
Welded on rail is sub $200 last time I saw

So you are within spitting distance of the rail already.

+1 for the MFI mount, I love mine. I got it because I didnt want to permanently weld a rail on my rifle. ( I know im wierd )

I have not tried any of these style of mounts however I found a few lightly used ones that might be worth checking out. These are not mine and I do not know the seller.

I'd be willing to part with my MFI mount, it's sitting in a drawer getting no love.
