And HK has several choices as proved by PTR and Zenith entries???

Aren't all of these companies FIREARMS MANUFACTURING COMPANIES? Isn't this what they DO? Or, used to do? These days I just don't understand some of the things happening in the 'industry'...

Can mike speak to Zeniths entry?
The story makes it sound like they want something that's essentially COTS, not a brand new design. It's also likely for not that many guns. Not worth it for large companies to develop a new gun.

The companies noted above all have manufacturing facilities and tooling in the US to make their guns. HK likely does not have UMP tooling in their US plant.

I understand the drive to stay in the 9x19 arena due to logistics but it's in production, less expensive than it's counterparts, and has some compactness and round penetration (spitzer bullet) not offered in the 9mm platforms.

Now if that's the case, then it makes total sense HK didn't enter. I thought maybe they were building their new run of USCs here (I guess not really the same exact tooling), but maybe they are just importing them over from Germany.

This is cool. What I don't understand is why you'd bring a B&T MP9 instead of the APC. Strange. Anyhow, if they are looking for suppressor hosts I think anyone with any sense will see that this is the MP5's game, hands down. I'm on team Zenith!

Yeah but like you said, it's logistics. The entire solicitation appears aimed at doing something quick, fast, and cheap.

    Zenith doesn't either.

The MP5 is much better than the MPX. The MPX is heavier than a Zenith full size Z5rs with wide handguards and Eotech and all.

I am sure the real aim is to slip in the MPX since very few people would buy that thing.

I think the mp5 is still king. I doubt they will chose anything good.

Remember...The DOD civilians and POG @$$ generals are half of what’s wrong with the military now.

These are the kind of people that switched from 308 to 5.56 and later thought 5.56 out of a 14.5 barrel was good for Afghanistan. Or fielded the MRAPS 2 years too late without the CROW. They really thought a vehicle that is so too heavy that a 50 cal fired at 180 degrees can flip it.

The Scorpion EVO and B&T are great options.
