Default convert usc to ump or build off gideon shadow?

i own a usc45 that i purchased to convert to a ump. however a gideon build seems pretty straight forward and i can still leave it in a pistol format and just keep the usc unaltered, it also seams i can buy a gideon shadow built for 2000$ typically and the cost for the usc+ conversion would put me at over 3k deep. what are the pros and cons of both and if you could pick to convert or build which one would you do and why?.

I bought one of the USC's that came in last year for the express purpose of converting it even though the US made receivers were available. If an H&K gun is available off the shelf to convert I always go with that for two reasons: 1) if I get a clone I always want/end up with the real thing later. 2) H&K's offerings aren’t going to be available forever and when they're gone the price skyrockets.

If I had sent a parts kit with a Gideon Shadow receiver to Tom Bostic I would have gotten a functional gun, but I still would have wanted it "all H&K."

Convert. Do it yourself, use a stock block, it’s fun and easy. You don’t have to f with all that plastic welding bs.

There was a time when you could save a lot of money by buying a parts kit, and a Gideon receiver, and putting it together. Unfortunately, the price of parts kits has gone up with demand. For myself, I wanted it to be 'as German as possible', given certain financial constraints.

With having a USC, you already have many of the parts you will need. If you picked up a Gideon receiver, a UMP stock and a UMP lower (minus guts, if you could find one) you'd have a pretty cool gun, and still be able to put your USC back together (not sure why you would, though).

I think that's what I would do, in your situation.

FWIW, I have a NIB ACR/stock block combo in the WTS section - would also allow you to keep your receiver unmodified but enjoy all the benefits.

When you did the conversion did you have Tom change the ingraving from usc to ump? I guess im just worried about the guns value over time by modding it If I did the conversion and went with the rear section pin conversion instead of the block and changed the name from usc to ump I would lose in the long run. I think you guys set me up to go ahead with the usc conversion. Now I guess my question is would you go with a block conversion usc or a full rear section conversion with name change?

If you’re going to SBR it, than it’s pretty much yours forever - so future valuations are a moot point.

Pro tip - if remarking, the model listed on your Form1 will be “UMP” *not* USC.

I always like the real deal. Since HK released the USC again, it's easier to find them. When there were none to be found, Gideon/clone receivers were a good option.

Yeah I got a Gideon receiver right before they announced the return of the USC's and was a little pissed off about the timing since I didn't think they would be coming back again.
It's a great shooter though so I can't complain too much.
