What muzzle brake do you find effective on a short barrelled 308? I have the factory screw-on H&k birdcage on the rifle now. And yes I have done a lot of searching on the forum

Hk bird cage is what I have on mine, using South African surplus. It worked fine for me.
No experience with other devices on it.

What is your goal? If your goal is to singe your eyebrows and make your friends hate you, rock on with that brake.

A flash hider is slightly more practical, although the gun really isnt.

Well now you got me thinking. The muzzle blast is already bad enough.

My kids love shooting my 51k, little recoil but huge blast/concussion. Any kind of break would only multiply that effect. As is it warms your face shooting on a cold day.

    Whats the goal?

If you hate your friends, knuckles and eardrums get an angled brake:

If you dont like having neighbors at the range get a perpendicular brake:

To keep the flame thrower effect but direct the concussion down range, I'd look for something forward facing like:

This isnt my photo - My V51P SBS is buried in the back of the safe, but I run a suppressor with a 3 lug adapter - alot like this:

I guess I wanted to direct the concussion downrange.

It doesn't matter what goes on the end of that gun because anybody in the area your shooting will probably hate you
Now to be SURE they (friends, family, anybody) hates you I personally went with this brake from HKParts. Has proper threads and spring lock to fit my barrel. Get some good ear protection and mabe shaded eye ware. Definitely reduces felt recoil.
