    Default "UMP" loose barrel

I got my Gideon Shadow 45 back from Omega nearly a month ago but only managed to get to the range today.

I dont know what they did to it since the gun was returned to me without any form of correspondence regarding repairs or their findings (but I digress).

I did this to my mags yesterday...

...and the gun ran great. I ran about almost 200 rounds thru it.

Now my barrel is loose, like it's loose in the trunnion. I can move the muzzle in a nice little circle. I cant be the only person this has happened to...can I?

In other news has anyone shot any of this ammo yet?

It's really weird stuff. My gun sounded and felt very different when I shot it. I dont know how to 'splain it. Just weird.

But back to the loose barrel. I guess it's going back to Omega. At one point do I tell them I want my money back?
    Mrs. Peel, we're needed.

Loose barrel would explain why I ran out of elevation adjustment with the rear sight. It's shooting over a foot low at 25 yards. If I keep it I could shave a bit off the front...or just buy an Eotech and be done with it.

Also, all you "UMP" owners out there, be careful if you perform that magazine feed lip mod. I think I got a bit too rambunctious on one of the mags. I removed a wee bit too much material and fear I may have ruined the mag.

Sorry to hear about your barrel problem on your Gideon. I have an HK USC converted to UMP by TBT and do not have that problem

Regarding your mag cut. Contact Tommy Built Tactical (TBT). He might be able to help you

The barrel shouldn't be able to move up/down/left/right at all. It is "slip fit" sized to the trunion with no lateral movement.

If your barrel moves in a circle, one of the following is at issue:

    1) Trunion is loose in the plastic mold of the receiver
    2) Barrel is undersized
    3) Trunion is oversized

Any of these are a big problem.

If you cock the bolt back, look in the ejection port and wiggle the barrel, does it move in and out too?

Yes, the barrel moves fore and aft (in and out) too! Golly, this is swell isn't it Wally?

As far as the mag is concerned, it was my mistake but I now know that it was likely the original problem.

On a brighter note, Omega has finally updated their website. Looks pretty good.

    I get that reference.

All joking aside, I wouldn't shoot that gun. Notwithstanding the lack of safety, if the barrel face isn't completely parallel with the bolt face, you'll damage the bolt. That firearm needs to go back to the manufacturer.

Is there any chance the barrel roll pin is not in place?

If it's in, I fear your trunnion is no longer embedded in the polymer.

Yes, pin is installed. Wish it were that simple but, alas...
