    Default MP5 FTE, Extractor problem?

Every now and then I get a ejection problem with my MP5 in 40 S&W.

I am wondering what the proper function of the extractor is.

When a round is loaded into the chamber with the bolt coming forward, does the extractor get pushed down and back on an angle,
or is it supposed to pivot, and tilt back to capture the rim of the round?

I took the bolt head out and examined the Extractor.
The ones on hkparts.net seem to have a more pronounced chamfer to capture the round.

Thinking about picking up the German extractor to see if it helps any.

Thanks for any help, I would really like to fix this problem.

Its suppossed to push over the rim then capture it. German tend to be the better choice in parts.
Make sure you replace the extractor spring with a new one, this is a wear part and most likely to need replacing. Also verify you know the proper replacement technique, you rotate the spring on its access out of the extractor recess, do not pry it or you will damage it.

Just wondering what is the best lube for the extractor?

I pulled it apart and cleaned the bolt head and extractor and lubricated it heavily with some Lithium complex grease with molybdenum.

It does seem to move quite freely now. There was a bit of carbon buildup in the bolt and on the extractor, maybe that was the problem.

I installed a new German extractor and spring, it seems to be ejecting better.
I manually cycled 90 rounds through the mp5 and not a single failure to eject.

Going to hit the range as soon as the quarantine is over and see how it shoots as I have just had a new barrel installed.

whenever i see this issue i immediately get a new spring and ejector - especially if its a clone and so far 7 for 7 it worked.

Note: the extractor springs weaken with each failure to eject. Use your thumb to push up on the extractor. If there is much movement its time to replace the extractor spring. I've seen a small part of the extractor once break off. I have the 10mm version and I've seen the ejector's wear much faster than my 9mm.
