    Default Wife bought me a H&K 416 22 LR as a surprise

Well I’m new here. Wife bought me the HK 416 22 as a surprise.

I’m seeing some really mixed opinions on it, is there anything I should know before taking it out to the range in the next couple weeks?

Any advice/input is appreciated( other than returning it and getting something else)

Dont return it....shoot it, learn it, most importantly enjoy it. I have 3....dressed up differently, 2 rifles and one in pistol configuration waiting on a tax stamp to be an SBR. Dont let the words of others discourage you, if you experience anything you feel is negative use it as a learning opportunity. My .02!!

    Kbear, welcome to this site.

Use the 'Search Thread' function here in this Forum and type Walther HK416; you'll find plenty of informational threads on Walther's HK 22LR series of rifles/pistols that have been authorized by H&K.

First thing I did was learn how to take the entire rifle apart, figuring I'd need to do a proper cleaning soon or later. Detailed pictures & tips have been posted here in these threads of takedown/reassembly. The trigger mechanism can be a bitch to reassemble, so tread lightly there if you dare; the good thing is that it doesn't get very dirty due to its closed top design. Magazines are cheap and plentiful, I think CDNN has them on sale all the time in the HK brand section.

My HK416D .22LR will eat all of the crappiest brands of .22 ammo that I throw into it. I currently have it loaded with Gemtech Subsonic 22LR ammo and a TAC65 suppressor attached; patiently waiting for that damn raccoon that has been raiding my bird feeder. I need to get a quality optic for it one of these days; currently has a cheap red dot reflex sight on top that just happens to co-witness perfectly with the front & rear sights, so can't complain I guess.

Congrats on the 'gift' from your wife; that's just awesome...

    Again, welcome.

    Thanks guys

My biggest concerns are the best ammo for it and making sure I clean it correctly.

Been a long time since I owned a non muzzleloader long gun.

Keep it clean - eats anything... I use CCI in mine and never have a problem. It is the most fun you can have with a .22 without failure. Mags are readily available. Enjoy and you have a great bride!!!!
    Welcome aboard!
