In the 1980s, the Malaysian government placed an order for P9S pistols, but they requested that the trigger be moved further back to compensate for people with generally smaller hands. Malaysians don't generally have the huge Teutonic hands of the Germanic Tribes. Hence the internal name HK employees gave it: "Kurzhand".

They also wanted a lanyard loop on the grip.

In 1988 HK produced a run of 25 "small hand" pistols for the German market.

This is one of the 25.

There's no special history on the P9 Sport. I bought it as pictured.
Ahhh--- thanks for the explanation and background on the "kurzhand")!!!
I was referring to this history--- not the Sport Group I.

Tony, the big question this morning is, How many of those kurzhand models have you accounted for in your inventory? It would be very interesting to know how many are still "in the wild".

    Thanks,

    Mark

I can add a third to your inventory. Not mine, but had the opportunity to purchase a few years ago. Will PM you.

For those keeping score at home, the one I knew about was the one Tony referenced as being in Germany. I became aware of it after it had been imported to the USA. So, TWO is the number of known kurzhand P9S pistols.

I’m sorry, I can be dense at times so I’ll flat out ask, which one in the pictures is made for the little people? ;-)

    Hi David

It's the one with serial # prefix 140. It has a lanyard loop on the butt. If you look very closely at trigger angles, its trigger rests further toward the back of the pistol than any of the others.
