Default VP9 Takedown Button Hitting Thumb at Range

So I have put a few hundred rounds through my VP9 and love the gun. First HK. I have shot a lot and had lessons from Chris Tilley with my CZ SP-01 Shadow Target but when shooting the VP9 my right side of of my left thumb takes a beating. Wanting to buy a P30L after getting HK bug and noticed it would not be in the way (takedown location). Even with saying this I shoot the VP9 as accurate as my CZ. I know it is my grip causing it but wanted to asked if anyone else experienced this?

I have gone through the forum to check before posting. Are there any videos or pics of grips used on the VP9?

So glad that I finally moved to HK and really enjoy this forum. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your VP9. People grip in many ways. Some use the European grip and a search should come up with something about it. Thumbs forward and high is popular and I have not heard people with your issue before. Of course what works best for you to quickly acquisition and hit on target is most important but a slight adjustment might ease your problem.

Yeah that button does not move during the cycle of the gun. You might have to adjust your grip. Im going to go grab mine to see what you might be doing.

Well, on my thumbs forward grip. My thumb is just kissing it as well. I have about 2k through mine and it has not bothered me.

Try more pressure on the meat of below your thumb, and less press with the mid-to-upper part of your thumb. Recoil management comes more from below your thumb and from your support hand's lower three fingers locking over the strong hand. I actually use the fact that the take down lever is hurting as a sign I am not applying correct pressure (at least for my style).

take a pic of the way you are gripping the gun. even if you are touching the release lever how is it "beating your thumb"?

Try a larger backstrap or perhaps change the sidepannels to see if it feels better when shooting.

What feels better when you hold the gun doesn't necessarily feel better when you shoot the gun.

Support hand index finger over the front of the trigger guard. Works for some folks. (Not me.)
