I have installed several sets of MEPROLIGHT night sights on my HK pistols. With an MGW HK specific pusher, the oem sights come off easily and the MEPROLIGHT sights go on just as easy and without any need for filing. A drop of oil helps. I have read here and elsewhere that TRIJICON sights and some others will require filing.

As to the self illuminating sights, I use a small AAA led flashlight to "charge" the front/rear sights while I shower at night. In 10-15 minutes, they have charged sufficiently to last most of the night on the night stand.

I also dig the mepros on my LE version! I like the standard sights for range use.

    Hello All, reviving this thread...

I recently purchased an P30SK w/ factory Tru Dot night sights. Operationally speaking, how do they stay "charged" for so long? I've read Meprolight's page on their Tritium sights. They speak of duration and other selling points but they don't speak on "how they work". Does anyone here know?

Never mind, found the answer in the FAQs (go figure) here:
    TRUGLO® | General FAQ's
"Q: How do T.F.O. (Tritium/Fiber Optic) products work?
A: Tritium is an isotope of hydrogen that glows in the dark. The tritium is used to illuminate the fiber when there is not enough existing light. This provides the ultimate aiming point regardless of light conditions (even in total darkness). Tritium glows continuously and will last for years."

Seriously, anyone who carries a handgun at night needs night sights.

    +1 on Meps.
Believe that's the HK factory NS on their LE guns.
    Like my P30SK LE.

Also have adjustable Meps on my USPT45 that I love as well.
Anyone with black on black standard USPT45 sights should seriously consider an upgrade.

My VP9 came with Factory Night Sights.
    They are Tru Dot.
I know some varieties of night sights are suppose to stay bright for more then (12) years. I've never seen any go completely dark.
