Yep. And the recoil difference gets even more pronounced with the lighter grain loads, such as 155. Unlike the USP, I think the P30 was modified to handle the .40S&W, and you can feel it.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of my USP40 and USP Expert45 from ffl jail. Will be my first foray into .40 S&W and hopefully should be most enjoyable given all I've researched with the USP.

For plinking? For target shooting? As a collector's piece? As CCW? For home defense? To assassinate pesky squirrels?

You can't go wrong with the USP Tac.

For .40 if you want an HK get a USP or USPc since it was built around the cartridge -

The other .40S&W pistols are being discontinued so I would take a pass - I'm not a .40 guy myself

The VP40 Tactical or just VP40 would make a fine choice as well. It handles the 40 very well, as does the P30L in 40.
All of the above can be had now for very reasonable prices.
As far as any HK pistols' durability with 40, you don't have to worry. We are all familiar with HK's engineering.

So it's official? HK will no longer produce the P30, P30L, VP, and P2000 in .40S&W? When did HK announce the news? Must have missed it..

*I believe Mike @ Cross Creek posted a while back that is why there were such good sales on P30 .40S&W even before the recent price drop across the board - I don't think its something HK would officially announce, a lot of mfg's are slowly distancing and consolidating themselves from .40

He posted P30 series discontinuing .40, I assume VP and P2000 will follow -

IIRC Mike said he couldn’t get the .40’s from his distributors, they said ‘they were being discontinued’. Silent discontinued if you will, which HK doesn’t have to announce.
Being Mil/LE switched from the .40, sheep will follow and so will production.

^Agree- and considering all LGS in my area that I visit are heavily overstocked on new and used .40 models and they move slow as molasses, likely they will still be available for quite some time -
