Default HK Expert 9MM Jet Funnel Magazines Question

Hello everybody, this is my first post here. I am looking for input about the mags for the Expert. There are metal ones and plastic ones available, but is there really any difference? Are the metal ones more reliable or heavy duty? I am probably going to carry this gun in case that is relevant.

I have probably 30+ "plastic" expert/elite magazines, both LEO only versions and regular. None have ever failed. I can't comment on the metal mags, never had one.

But I would not bother going for metal as plastic has never failed (why change). They may be lighter I don't know??

That is exactly the type of answer that I was looking for! Thank you!

Does anyone have experience with the metal ones?

My 2 cents would be that the current mags are the clad metal, and there might be a good reason.

I can't imagine that weight is a concern if you plan to carry an expert with jetfunnel and 18rnd mags.

These were a screaming deal at buy2 get1 free.

@Copperhead23 welcome to HKPro. I agree with @hawkeye (although I don't have 30+ mags!!!) that the polymer mags are very high quality and I've not had any issues. I have 4 of the steel ones (they are steel coated in polymer almost to the top). I got them back when they were new and still very expensive so I use 2 and 2 sit around. The 2 I've used have also functioned flawlessly so I don't really see an advantage in them. They are built like a tank but don't feel much heavier than the poly ones. I like them both, and if I was buying more, I would get the poly since you can get more of them for the same cost.

Did you say you are using an Expert with Jet Funnel as your EDC gun? Seems a tad bulky no?

My current every day carry is a tan Mark23 so anything else feels small!

I have both type mags. The metal ones seem like they would survive a nuclear war. I feel like the metals ones would be more reliable- but functionwise there would likely be no difference. Just one of those "polymer vs metal" opinions where I felt the metal ones were stronger. Again- there is ZERO difference in function. I'm only referring to how bombproof the metal ones feel. If I were you I'd pick up some metal ones just to have them.

Lame. You should upgrade to an SP89 for EDC. Go big or go home Copperhead!
