Default Current State of HK Magazines USP 45 vs MK23

The pictures below represent examples of the USP45 BD Date code and the Mark 23 BG Date code.

I have read many references stating that the magazines are identical except for the floor plates with current production magazines. Is this true?

The magazines appear to be identical, with the same "Made in Germany" markings in the same location

".45" is in the same location, but is not stamped as deep on the MK23 magazines

No difference in the rear of the magazine either, even the dovetails match perfectly

Identical on the right side of the magazines too

This is where it gets interesting, the USP 45 magazine is on the right, MK23 on the left- something is different, do you see it?

Let's take a measurement of the MK23 magazines feed lips

Now without moving the micrometer, I place it on the USP 45 feed lips

So it appears that the feed lips are indeed still longer on the MK23, I am amazed that there is no other visual cue on the magazine for reference other than measuring the feed lips.

The appearance of the law must be upheld, especially when it's being broken.

I have found floor plates for the MK23 for sale separately, so I purchased several of them and made my range mags from USP Mags.

I keep with real MK23 mags for both of my Mark 23's for this very reason.

The difference is in the feed lips (12/16" on the Mark 23, 9/16" on the USP)--- both magazine bodies are interchangeable (10 to 10, 12 to 12, but not 10 to 12, or 12 to 10)!!!

It is a lot less expensive to do as you suggest. However I have read many give advice that they are the same. They are not. I wish they were, sure would save me money. I made this as a reference for those to whom this type of information matters.

How do those MK23 magazines function in a USP?

I can only speak for myself but my mags are mixed and I haven't had a problem but that also means it's not impossible to have a malfunction in the mark 23 with short feed lips. To my knowledge current production magazine bodies should be interchangable, however HKs reasoning to have longer feed lips on the mark 23 was to have more reliable feeding. When I head to the range I dont check if I have usp or mark 23 mags. I have mag extensions for the USP 45 and modified my mark 23 to accept them. Mark 23 mags work just fine in the USP. The only potential for failure is usp in a mark 23 according to HK.
