    Default VP9 Slide release modification

Hello. About a year ago a friend from work purchased a VP9. I shot it at the range, liked the pistol but shooting left handed I would put pressure on the slide release causing the slide to not lock open on an empty magazine. Other then that nice pistol. As I am heavily invested in the Glock platform it really did not matter to me, I had no interest in switching pistols. Now flash forward my friend wants to sell the pistol. He did not shoot it much and his price is good. I would not mind having the pistol. I would still carry a Glock. I was wondering to solve the problem of me putting pressure on the slide release, what if I removed/shortened it? I could cut it close to the pivot point and smooth it out. About the only negative I could think of would be decreasing the guns value. Any other negatives I am not thinking of? At this point in my shooting carrier I am not going to change my grip. I slingshot my slide on all guns and do not use a release.

You can cut it short but cannot remove it completely. If you want to resell it, buy a replacement lever and put it back.

Thanks. I did not know if I could replace the lever after being cut.

I am lefty and chopped my right side slide release down to just a square nub. Get the spring tool from HK parts to make the job much easier. Very happy with the results.

Here is a link to the tool I mentioned for the spring, you definitely want this to get the trigger return spring back in.

Nothing like posting to a 2 year old thread but I too am a leftie with slide release issue. Rather than hack the entire lever off I removed just the raised end. This is what was hitting my thumb knuckle and making the slide close. With what's left of the leaver I can still push up to lock slide back with right thumb as I usually do (important for 'unload and show clear).

It is possible but not easy to release slide by pushing lever down so when on the clock I am sure to seat mag firmly which does an auto release.
