Default HK USP 45 polymer frame cracking

Story time. This HK USP 45 started it's life as a non tactical model, I added the threaded HK BBl, HK suppressor sights and the tactical recoil spring. So I have a **** ton of rounds fired from it over the last few years both suppressed and unsuppressed, so a few weeks ago I took it apart to find what I think is the polymer frame cracking underneath the area where the rails are, I can still fire it just fine without any issues but it is a concern. Thoughts?

To be clear, mark up the pics of the [polymer frame cracking underneath the area where the rails are].

From what I can see it does look like cracking. Could you shoot it? yeah. Probably shouldn't though. I would hit HK up and see what they say. That's a damn shame, I've followed that USP 45's career since you got it. It might be serviceable after they look at it, but they might want to replace the frame. Which I would suggest honestly. You've got the MARK 23 to hold you over till she gets back if you have to send it out.

I have shot this pistol more than any other pistol I have ever owned, years and years of solid reliability. I am a little butt hurt about it however if I must replace it, I know how long it must take before a total failure happens. I don't believe any normal person would shoot there USP as much as I have over the years.

Odd. It looks like the dust cover and trigger guard are in danger of falling off. That's a weird place to show stress. Did you have like a 30 pound search light hanging off the rail or something ? It looks like the overmolding is peeling off the rails in spots , which does happen though not with any mechanical disadvantage to the operation . I'd send these pics to Columbus and shoot it 'till the dust cover falls off

My guess is that after so many thousands of recoil cycles of violent upper motion of the slide/barrel assembly against the frame rails, that the force has finally fatigued the polymer enough to crack.

What was the tested MTBF of these pistol frames when they were first introduced? Anyone know?

Solid advice here and I would say the same. The frame rails look really beat up for some reason almost like something is off or was stuck inside chewing them up. I would definitely send it to HK and see what they say about it.

this is my thoughts as well almost word for word.

i can honestly say I've never seen a USP shot to the point the frame starts cracking like that in multiple points but also keep in mind that it is still a tool and tools do wear out at some point. i would certainly say you got your moneys worth on that gun. if HK can't replace it, i would check into finding a cheap USP 45 and buying it for the frame and then sell the slide to someone.

i say this very little but I'm actually impressed and shocked at the same time.
