Default P7 faint serial # and refinishing

I got a P7 that has very, very faint serial #ís and proof marks on both the slide and frame. It badly needs a refinish, but Iím concerned that the plating will completely obscure the #ís.
I was wanting to get Robar NP3+ but donít know if thatís an option now that Iíve received the gun. I know Fords can mill and restamp slides, but have never seen them do a frame.
Is there anything that can be done? Acid etching? Is it even legal to own a gun with no serial #ís on the frame or slide?

Just call Fords, and perhaps send them pictures. I'm reasonably sure they'll be able to help you out, and they do fantastic work.

Fords is very talented, they will make it look better than new. They have several finish options and will have no problem re-engraving it.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I could send it to Fords for the restamping first then to Robar. My pistol will be gone for a LONG time. Bummer...

    That would make zero sense.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

There looks like there is a lot of holster wear on the slide. Do you use a kydex holster for your P7? I've noticed on some of my P30s that I carry a lot in a hybrid holster that the serial number and proof marks were getting filled with dirt and plastic from scraping the inside of the kydex. Some were so bad it looked like they were totally rubbed off. After using some gun cleaner and a toothbrush the markings looked like it did when it was new. It's a quick and easy thing to try to see if it's just filled with gunk rather than actually wearing down.

Nope. Not legal to own that gun. Send it to my FFL and I'll dispose of it for you :)
