You're on HKPRO. It is always because excellence in engineering.
“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.”

Not a fan of the slide cutouts at all.

Maybe, but you have to wonder where their priorities are.
I know it's easy to say as I'm not in firearms marketing, but I'm thinking an OR slide would be more in demand than a loooong one with cutouts?

AFAIK, long slide 9mm's do have to be very careful of slide weight, or the pistol won't cycle. I suspect this is easily overcome if building from the ground up and willing to change recoil springs, etc. If this is intended (as it is) to have parts shared with a standard VP9, they likely needed to lighten the slide for it to cycle and wanted to change as little as possible.
I imagine it's less tacticool and more physics related.

I like the slide cut outs. I think we should keep in mind that this version I suspect, is primarily for competition, which is why I want it so bad. It is very much like the Walther. However, not having an option for a red dot is a little bizarre. SIG and Walther are way ahead in terms of red dot options on all their pistols, especially for USPSA/IDPA. But I will be getting the L kit as soon as I can. I love the vp9 and prefer Hk's consistent quality.

@farmerbrown : I was being sarcastic, mostly towards apologetic attitudes to HK on this site. They published an OR on their European site over two years ago, obviously without testing it appropriately before that. Otherwise they wouldn't have had to re-design it for a more robust setup before the release, as we were told on this site. They still haven't delivered it. This isn't a superior engineering, this is an incompetence and/or lack of resources.

I believe I was told by “an insider” something about the OR being released at SHOT and they were doing ACRO plates. I hate how people share rumors as gospel, as if they have some real insider information.

I’ll probably pick up a long slide or the kit. But **** it, I’m getting an existing VP9 slide milled or buying an extra. I’m finished waiting. It’s been three years. At this point I wish I had just abandoned the platform...but for some reason I kept investing.
