Thanks for the replies, I’d never chop the factory barrel or make any permanent changes to something like a MK23.
For those of you asking, I live in the most gun-hostile corner of our country... NYC
It looks like there is a range nearby in NJ that rents out a variety of guns including the MK, and USP (not expert from what I’m seeing) so I’m going to try to swing by and give them a try.

Ok that makes sense . And yeah try before you buy ...

Both are very large guns ..If your looking at the MK23 remember there is different models of it around so look into that

I mean I have always wanted a MK23 personal but I live in a state where one can own a silencer and any mags you want ...Me if I liked in state where you could not own more then 10 I would get a gun with the biggere caliber I could handle so only haveing 8 or 10 rounds would make me less sad ...

I find it funny that the mk23 is right on the edge of not being NY legal just due to the weight ( no handguns over 1,4kg and it weights 1.2kg) lol

Oh god the big bad apple. I'm sorry. I got stationed in Cali for 3 years and that sucked balls (granted reno was an 1 1/2 hours away and I shopped at walmart in NV). But to throw in another .02c, yes the expert is a better choice in your case. Have both, love both. If I were to sell one off and keep only one, the expert it would be to stay.

Welcome to the site--- no threaded barrel = Expert--- non-threaded barrels are available, but defeat the purpose--- let us know what you acquire!!!

Rim Country Manufacturing produces two different lengths of non-threaded barrels.

    Heyas Gowanus!
Save your money to move outta NY!!
I'm sorry. I'm kidding. Tho seriously, get outta NY.
I have to go with popular opinion. If you're going to spend this much on an already great pistol, spend as little as you have to, to appease the demons in ur state capitol. You already have to buy new mags, hold off til you don't have to spend more on a barrel.
I can't speak for the other three. But the USP was one of the favorite guns that I'd ever owned.
Make plans to move to MO or KS. We've got some of the most relaxed gun laws in the country, even have the right to stand. (As long as you avoid St. Louis.) Just food for thought. 😉
    Welcome to the Hk kraze!

As others have posted, I would definitely go with the Expert or just a regular USP considering your circumstances. Welcome to the site and let us know what you pick out.

    Cool USP Elite 45

    10 round capacity?
    Sounds like Kalifornia.
If you're behind the Iron Curtain, then a threaded barrel is off the menu as well.
That makes an Expert the right model.
With a 10 round capacity restriction, 45 ACP becomes the caliber of choice.

    Full Disclosure:
    I don't own a USP Expert.
But do have a USP Tactical and USP Elite (both in 45 ACP).
Not for carry, I'd really consider a USP Elite 45 Long Slide

I live in CA and live my Expert. My wife is recoil sensitive (all in her head lol) and even she loves shooting it.

    Experts are good.
IMHO an Elite might be better...
5 to 6 inch barrel and slide.
Which one do you think has less felt recoil?
My Elite is a tack driving Wamma Jamma - LOL
