I'd like to hear more of what your friend has to say on this.
I've read many comments as of late regarding the dwindling supplies of P7 parts. That HKParts (even with their high prices on these) are low on these specifically. I've recently spoke to a friend of mine J****e who is one of the longtime armorers at HK Ga (nicht Oberndorf).. and he advised me not to worry about parts, as there have lots on hand to keep these pistols healthy for a long time. So I guess I'd like to ask if folks needed parts, have found it difficult to source, have they tried sourcing at HK? I'm also wondering if there is a disconnect between customer svc and what shows in inventory, and truly what's down in the armorer's "vaults"... thoughts?
My conversation with him was not in depth regarding the state of affairs relating to dwindling parts, it was a remark made by him within a more holistic concern of keeping my P7 going. Next time I speak with him I'll see if I can get more specifics. And I know James at TT (who posted on the thread you pointed out), and he's done work for me.. I hold what James says/does in the highest regard. My post was not so much to debate, but more to see if it could be another source that folks may not have attempted... I will dig a little deeper to get some Klarheit on this
HK USA hoarding!!!
Germany is hoarding.
I'm not sure Id really worry that much. My gunsmith can machine about any part it seems. Plus you would be surprised how long the stock of parts lasts...My main 9mm shooter is a 1959 vintage Sig P210. It's never broken a part but I did find a guy on Ebay with a whole box of parts for it and I scarfed them up to keep as spares..

I got their last recoil spring.
As to HK USA holding parts for service, keep in mind HK USA no longer works on the P7 series.
So I don't see them keeping parts for that purpose.
Now is HK Germany holding P7 parts, probably so.
