Oh, I don't know. I've done some of my finest work with a little Irish whiskey and a broadband connection.

For small parts HK extensively uses MIM (for eg. hammer, sear, safety latch, extractor etc), stampings (for eg. trigger bar, firing pin safety lever) and machining from bar stock (for eg. firing pin, firing pin safety, guide rod, etc.). Slide and barrel are made with use of proprietary alloy steels made up for HK specs by Aubert & Duval foundry. Slides are machined from forgings, barrels are cold hammer forged. Polymer parts are made at HK. In manufacturing process HK uses expensive technologies, still rarely used in firearms industry, like for eg. laser hardening (locking surfaces on slide and barrel). For slide and barrel HK uses carbon nitriding surface treatment (Hazardous Environment finish), that even if "black" is worn out, actual finish and corrosion protection is still in place.
