Default New USP45 Compact- Very Stiff Mag Release

I literally just picked up a NIB USP45 Compact today (BI date code, so 2018). Inserting a loaded mag is no problem, but I do notice it's pretty tight. The mag release however is almost non-operational. I need to press VERY hard for it to release the mag, and even using both thumb and index finger it's still very difficult to get the mag to eject.

Is this something that will loosen up after taking it to range and shooting it (AKA breaking it in), or does this indicate a potentially more serious issue requiring a trip back to HK? I've never experienced a problem with a new H&K before, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

I haven’t had a brand new HK in a while but I have to believe that part will break in as the finish wears off the catch and a little off of the mags too.

Does it move freely and easily with the mag out of the frame? If not, there could be an issue.

Yes, the mag release functions as expected without the mag inserted, it is pretty stiff however.

Check the spring, it can come out of the seat if it wasn't seated correctly. It happened to me. Look under the mag release and see if it is seated correctly in the pocket

Is the resistance the same through out the travel of the lever, or does it get stiffer the further it moves?

It's the same throughout the travel, with a tiny bump just before the end.

I replace mine with HK45C Magazine Release but I remember mine being stiff as it was brand new.

The actual mag spring is where the pressure is coming from on the mag release. Download the mag and it should be easier to eject.
