    Default P30L night site recommendations

    Hi all,

I am looking to get a set of night sites for my P30L. I would like a set with a thinner front site width but and am open to suggestions, Tritium or tritium/fiber optic combo are both in the equation. Would anyone have any recommendation based on their experience?

    Thanks

I've been pleased with the OEM option, the Meprolights, for both day and night sight acquisitions and sight picture.

Have you seriously considered your need for night sight in the first place. You mentioned front sight size. Typically I believe the smaller vials are still going to put you at a 155 front. Night sights are the rule rather than the exception these days with their explosion in popularity in the mid-90's. However I would argue that they have minimal application. I personally preference a front sight that draws my eyes attention, with a blackened rear. Night sights are centered on use of force application -1% probability. However, any use of force application that is implemented will almost certainly involve some sort of ambient light from the environment. Additionally, if you are carrying for the purposes of serious bodily injury or death intervention, whether you're an average Joe, Public Servant, or putting boots to sand, you should or would most likely be using a light, or lights, applicable to the task, for a multitude of reasons. If you've any experience using tritium for any length of time, you'll find that it doesn't take a whole lot of ambient light to wash out the brightest of vials and that those vial get considerably dimmer over time. I am not saying there isn't any merit in tritium sights, I just believe that in is nominal compared the trade offs. I lean towards sights that give me value towards attributes that I am most likely to use. For me that is a narrow front sight with a fiber optic rod or a brass insert (10-8's, Dawsons, Vickers). Neither insert is needed in low light, but will still most likely be visible if needed when using a tertiary light source.

THIS. Really like trijicon HD's for most of my carry guns, but they stand up way too high on the P30 series. Found it very difficult to holster with the trijicon's as well. YMMV.
