Absolutely and thank you! Any suggestions for .45 range plinking ammo?

Anyt good quality ammo but Winchester it's a bit dirty and makes clean up harder.
I won't shoot cheap steel and aluminum. For SD Federal HST is potent.

This is hardly an endorsement of the ammo because I have gone through only one recent-manufacture batch, but I just finished up a 250 rd pack of the Remington UMC 230gr Metal Case in their "Mega Pack". The ammo was very consistent and accurate.

I cracked a 1000 rd case of PMC 230 FMJ yesterday and have shot 50. No conclusion yet on that ammo. The guys here used to rate PMC very good, but the reviews were several years old.
My opinion's as worthy as one from any other doddering old grampa you have never met or heard of.

I definitely won’t be messing with any steel/aluminum type ammo. Never ran those in any of my guns.

Thank you. Looks like federal hst are popular on .45 cal as well.

I’ll add those to the list and do further research on them. Thank you.

SD 50/bx ammo you’ll want to get those online, most LGS stock 20/25 bx. I like HST, so get .45 230gr +P. Check sgammo.com, ~200rds SD + plinking FMJ, probably a minimum 600-800rds total to offset shipping. These guys are good, fast shipping and well packed.
For quick convenient stock-up 1-3 50/bx, Walmart Fed Champion isn’t bad. Ditto on keeping distance from Win white box, that ball powder they use isn’t combusting well (unburned propellant).

    Default Suggestion for hood wear

Remove the slide and then the barrel. Run your finger under the front edge of the shell extractor port. Surprising how sharp the edge is. I very lightly rub a stone/hone on the sharp edge. Pay close attention to the bottom on the right of the opening. That's where most of the wear occurs. You won't see any difference but it sure feels smoother and won't grind against the hood with each shot or rack.
