Default New P30L with slight surface rust on barrel

So I bought a new P30L last week. It was my second one in two weeks. :-)

I had been shooting the first one I bought exclusively for the last two weeks and went to break out the other one yesterday. I wanted to lubricate it before bringing it to the range.

Once at my work bench, the sunlight coming through the window revealed a red-orange tint to the barrel and to the recoil spring guide rod. The pistol was BONE dry. I cleaned it off best I could, but you can still see a trace of it.

What gives????....and what would you do? Should I call HK's customer service?

PS- there is no signs of rust in the bore.

When you say your P30L was "bone dry", it didn't have the infamous Hk grease/lubricant anywhere on the pistol? That's strange.

Sounds like coating failure. Definitely, call HK CS and send them a picture. You're covered under your warranty.

Yup.....bone, bone dry. No grease, oil etc. I have an HK45, HK45C, P2000 and the two P30L's and this is the first time I've seen a bone dry one.

It's not rust, and if 'bone dry" don't think NIB. I just purchased a NIB BF date code P30, it was still 'wet' with factory cosmoline.

Recoil springs have red paint on them, so likely what you're seeing. I've also seen posts where people think MPro 7 LPX oil is rust, but it's the color of the oil.

I stripped down a brand new P30 and P30sk yesterday, right out of the box.. dry as a bone.
Not a hint of grease anywhere.
    Made cleanup easy. :)

Well this makes things way more interesting. What was the context bradtown? Are you absolutely sure they were brand new? If so, what's going on here?? HK couldn't let guns out of their factories with no lube or preservatives... Right? Could they be using those dry lubes/nanoparticle lubes now - like Anderson puts in their AR15s? Huh. In my experience HKs come out of the box wet.
