Default +5 mag extension only allows +2

    Hello everyone -

I recently purchased two +5 rd mag extensions from HK Parts (see here). I installed them on the VP9 15 rd mags that came with the gun. When I go to load them with ammo, I can only get +2 rds, or, 17 rds total. It should be able to load 20 rds.

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I'm wondering if they didn't accidentally send me the +2 rd mag extensions.

    Thanks!

Perhaps the follower is catching on the extension?

Your spring did not seat correctly inside the extension. While installing the extension, the trailing edge of the bottom of the spring probably got caught on the edge while the force of the remaining spring pushed into the mag extension creating a 90* bend thus blocking the follower. Just take it apart and install it again. I like to snap it in pretty quickly, keeps the spring from hanging up.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I think I found the problem, though please tell me if I'm wrong.

After disassembly, I noticed that the magazine locking plate will not fit properly in the mag extensions. (See pictures below). I believe this is a problem with the mag extension, which seems to have protrusions that should not be there. If you look at the photo on HKparts, these protrusions are not there. (See other photo)

Does this mean the mag extensions are out of spec? Would you all suggest I return them?

    Thanks

    Follow up:

Some of the mag extensions on HKparts do seem to have these protrusions. (See here). Does anyone know why there's this inconsistency? It seems like the magazine locking plate will never clear those protrusions.

    Thanks

Another follow up: I think I'm stupid and I don't actually need to include the magazine locking plate... Noobie mistake - first of many to come. Thanks, guys.

There is an HK Parts sub forum if you want to look in there or post there for responses too:

Did the issue fix itself? I would guess the spring got caught up too, reinstall would most likely fix it. I have tried X-tech and they have been good. The best has been Solum Tool extenders for me.
