Default USP hammer - does not rest against firing pin?

Question about the position when the hammer is at rest.

I had to oil and 'wear in' the decocker on my 'new to me' USP 45 fullsize. It was very difficult to actuate.

I notice when decocking the hammer it stops on the half cock position but if I run the hammer up by holding the trigger I assumed it would rest against the back of the slide or the firing pin.

I can press the hammer forward and it contacts the firing pin but returns to rest a few millimeters short of touching the slide/firing pin. Is this normal on USPs? Just want to make sure I didn't put it back together wrong when I took the hammer spring out to clean the magwell area.

Haven't fired it yet, I'll get it out to the range in the next week or two.

    TIA,
    Jeff

All normal. Just take your gun to the range to make sure it functions.

When using the decocker, the catch prevents the hammer from making contact with the firing pin. When riding the trigger, you deactivate the passive safety of the catch, allowing the hammer to make contact with the firing pin. Don't do the latter.
