This is the way...Home
I recently picked up a 1993 HK USP, KD date code on the slide. What maintenance would you do if you didn't know the guns history? It seems to pass all function tests fine, haven't shot it yet. I have never felt another USP, so I can't tell if the recoil spring is worn just by feel of racking the slide or anything like that...but it certain feels easier to rack than say my Sig P226.
I'm thinking I can at least get a new recoil spring assembly, but what other parts would you look into replacing? Should I just send it to HK and have them go through the whole thing?
RSA is good for at least 25K, but as you probably found out, the KD date code unit is not 'captive' like the newer ones, it's just more convenient, nothing probably wrong with the RSA that is in the USP now. Send it to Marine0303 and let him give it a thorough inspection and cleaning, he's a certified H&K Armorer, I would also add a set of new night sights, but that's just me, I have them on all my USP's
Congrats on your USP! =)
Yeah, I already put a new set of Mepro sights on it.
It actually has a captive spring, someone upgraded it at some point, but I don't know if it was done last month, or in 1996 haha. I just ordered the recoil spring assembly for the tactical since I want to run it suppressed. Thanks for the advice guys.
There have been a lot of upgrades to the USP over the years:
I would recommend letting James go over it or send to HK

HK - No Compromise
I got the 219068 recoil assembly the other day from the HK web shop and installed it. I guess these pistols are just easier to rack than some of my other guns that seem to have much stiffer springs. It also came with a brand new barrel in it, (the original is in the box).
I'm going to look into the parts needed to update the firing pin and then call it good. The gun runs great, trigger feels nice, it's a variant 3 left side decocker already which is great as that's what I'd convert it to if it wasn't. I'm really happy with it. I also got a rail adapter and then put a TLR-1 HL on it.
