I have an SP89 with a PDW barrel that contains small case "le" markings. The story I got was that the owner had personal connections with HK through his involvement in SWAT. He had the SP89 returned to HK for installation of the barrel by someone named Debbie Morris as I recall. I too was curious about this marking. The conjecture was that perhaps "le" stood for Law Enforcement but that's all it is, speculation. I think I started a thread on this a while back. If anyone has any new insights I'm all ears...

I linked your thread above. My PDW is exactly the same, J8 le with the sling hook. Mine was a pulled barrel I bought from Vollmer. HK started using a different date code scheme and lower case letters that did not correspond to their standard system.

Does anyone know how to decipher the new coding scheme?

I'm happy to relay that I received the barrel, and it is in pristine condition. Now off to work on it!!!!! SP5K turned MP5K.

Thanks for posting that. So I understand correctly, the new scheme, as laid out in the table you posted, has the second character in the date code lower case, correct?

You are quite welcome--- I have seen it both ways (e.g., a Mark 23 magazine, marked "IO")!!!
