That's where mine's headed after TT.

James has a no go gauge that tells him if the piston is in spec. The first three rings tend to lose their razor sharp edge and end up being smaller in diameter. That's when it needs to be replaced.

Mine will be heading to James as well. Any idea of Ford's current lead time? I think Robar is currently at 16 weeks for a pistol.

Months. At least four. In my experience more. $500 for case hardening.

Geeze. I'm heading back to ND from Oklahoma for the rest of the year in about a month. I was gonna wait until I got settled in to get this started, but I'd better not wait that long lol. Might have to find a beater P7 to play with in the meantime.

Are you going with case hardening, or you just happened to know the price already? Any idea how it would wear compared to hard chrome?

Here's a few more pics for anyone that's interested.

Case hardening. I called last week and the girl I talked to had to figure out how much it would be. I guess they don't do it much. As far as durability I couldn't tell you.

Thanks for the info. I've got to mull it over and get it started.

Did anyone notice the mag still has a very very very faint imprint of the department engraving? I think mine says "West Covina Police" in just the right light.

In my opinion, case hardening is beautiful. I conducted some research on that finish and apparently it is not very durable. Perhaps someone else has more experience with it?

I don't follow why you guys are concerned with durability of case hardening. Are you planning to carry your P7M13s? If so why would you case harden them? Seems to me anyone case hardening them is doing it for the beauty and rarity of a case hardened P7. Are these not going to travel between your safe and the range and back? Why then do you need the case hardening to hold up against the elements?
