    Default HK G3 bayonet questions

looking for some info on a G3 bayonet. The one in question belongs to a friend of mine, and he has had it for many, many years. His father (deceased) was an HK dealer in the late 70's and through the 80's. He supplied all the local teams with MP5's, HK 33's, 91's, etc.. back in the day.

the date code on the bayonet itself is: 6/4/76

while the date code on scabbard is: 7/2/77

there are no other marks on the bayonet or the scabbard.

My real question I why did HK go with actual dates, rather then their established alpha based date code(s).

thanks in advance for any insight.....

Probably because they weren't HK manufactured.

that was my initial thought, but you never know for sure what HK was making in the 60's and 70's....

The alpha based date codes were not fully implemented until after the mid 1970's. You will normally see the numeric dates on pre 1977 German made weapons.

As for the bayonets, I believe most of them were made by Eickhorn. I am not sure if HK ever went into series production of them. It is very difficult to find that info.
