Default How do you remove flash hider from HK 93

How do you remove the flash hider from the barrel? What kind of adapter can you use for a suppressor?
    Thanks, Robert

The flash hider should just spin off-
As far suppresor, any system that uses
    The M15x1 threads I suppose?

Sometimes the HK flash hiders can be very hard to remove.
Do not stick a screwdriver into the slots and try and pry it off.
At best your screwdriver can break, at worst the flash hider will bend.
I removed a 91 flash hider once that had a lot of carbon built up on the threads. It would only turn 1/8 of a turn or less at a time. I used Breakfree CLP and worked it back and forth. Use the two notches at the end of the flash hider to get a grip on it.

As for thread adaptors for silencer use, they are available but many silencer makers will say they are not the best solution. For the HK93 I would get a Gemtech HALO which mounts over your factory flash hider.
I long for the days of stamped HKs.

Thanks for the replies. I thought it would slide off the splines, but I guess the whole thing screws off. I will check it when I get back.

Correct. Those splines are only on the barrel. There's a spring clip in the rear of the FH that engages the splines once it's fully threaded on. It prevents the hider from unscrewing should it be not completely tight.

One thing to note - Some 93s were imported with 15.5" or so barrels, just under the 16" requirement. They have a slightly longer than normal flash hider that is pinned and welded in place. If you have one of them, it's not going to unscrew until you drill or grind the welded pin out.

One way to tell is to look through the flash hider. If it has a 1/4" or so hole through it (.223 diameter) then it's pinned and welded on. If it yas a 3/8" or so hole through it, then it should unscrew without grinding the pin out.

Well that sucks. I'd hate to have to register one as an SBR for a measley half inch just so you could use a suppressor.

That's odd. I've got an HK 43 that has the short barrel and pinned FH, but it is the standard length FH, not elongated. Anyone know why HK went with a long FH on some rifles?
