Based on the information that I currently have:

    1. IK (21-1324X through 21-15789)
    2. Lowest KA (21-15926)

NOTE: Noticing this stamping variance somewhat late, the highest "SP 89" that I have seen is 21-13557, and the lowest "SP89" that I have seen is 21-14500.

Tony, So I understand and a recap for all here including me. The unique stamping (widely spaced S P 89) stops around 21-13700, so only around 700 guns since the s/n's begin at 21-13000. As for IK dated SP 89's in general, they last s/n accoring to your information is 21-15789. So they imported approx. 2789 SP 89's in 1989. And from my own memory, I think from your stats some time ago, they in total over the 5 years(89-93) imported approx.
13k total SP 89's, I think, please correct me if Im wrong. Thanks AGG.

    SP89's with different model markings:

    - highest "SP 89" (21-13557)/lowest "SP89" (21-14500)
    - I have the numbers in between but do not know the particular stampings
    - 943 "unknown"
    - ? marked "SP 89"

    Number of "IK's":

    - highest "IK" (21-15789)/lowest "KA" (21-15926)
    - 137 gap
    - divide by 2 for average (68.5)
    - 15789 + 68.5 = 15857.5
    - approximately 2,858 "IK's"

    Total of HKSP89's imported (89, 90, 91- no importation, 92, 93):

    - lowest (21-1324X)/highest (21-27621)
    - approximate importation (14,650)

I think in the end the shop is only going to hurt what they could have sold it for with the proper front hand guard.
pardon my ignorance what does AOW stand for?

Wow, here I am always thinking one of these days I will come across one of those KC 89's. Silly me. Glad we had this talk. Thanks.

I don't know. It leaves purview of NFA once a long barrel is attached, but whether 922r applies is something else.

922r is 10 items though correct? In the original question #1 of this post I asked about why the class 3 dealer said in his ad that he was ordering a non AOW front grip, which would make the gun 922 compliant. I didn't, and still don't know for sure, but thought it took a lot more than a front grip, to make a gun compliant (922). Unless there was a lot of parts on that SP 89 that could not be seen, or was not listed. That was one of the reasons I wrote the question in the beginning, that part of it (question #1) just got overlooked. Thanks.

    B,

You may now cease searching for a "KC" SP89!!!
10 U.S. parts under 922(r)--- correct--- but the list of parts may differ from firearm to firearm.
I believe that the seller was going to acquire the "original configuration" front grip (i.e., with the little nub) to take it out of AOW purview.

EXAMPLE: Prior to 11-1990 (and if you could show that it was "reconfigured" before then--- e.g., receipts for pre-89 parts), you could convert a post-89 firearm to pre-89 "configuration" (e.g., swap thumbhole stock for standard stock--- like when Mitchell Arms included "standard/pre-89" furniture with their AK/M90's with "thumbhole/post-89" furniture).

Currently, attempting the same, you would have to comply with the 10-part, U.S. rule.

922r is no more than 10 imported parts (relative to the list of 20 and in the case of the mp5 style firearms, 16). Here's a great worksheet tool for those learning
