I was more interested in a couple of other HKs in that auction: P7, P9S and HK Mod. 4.
    Alas, too late...

I'm aware of this one, I've had those photos saved for a few years now but never actually seen the listing...thanks!
I combined both views for a print I was going to do but never got around to it. I still have it sitting in my files.

Shame! These are beautiful pieces, and sold at very reasonable prices! Try your luck next auction...

That is a nice looking print. It really deserves one, but seeing it in person is even better ;). I will contact the seller now, see if we can strike an agreement. Here is a link to the article I wrote on the Stgw 57 factory cutaway (link here) and (here if you cannot see high-res pics)

Markings are "G3 FMP 402304 2/91" (pictures below). I suppose "2/91" is the date of production, but not sure.

Here they are. Truly a beautiful cutaway job.

No. Generally they remain "soft" as hopefully no one will try and fire it!

Thanks for the info. This does mean that owners need to be very careful and avoid dings and scratches.

Nice find. I believe that is the same sold in 2013. Very nice German cutaway.

    No, its not that "soft".
Just easier to mill if not hardened first.

I see. This is very interesting info. Do you also know why they were made in the first place?
