Default Threading the factory USC 16.5" Barrel itself at >16"

I'm going to purchase one of those 8" off of hkparts.net, but won't be able to keep it with me until I get my Form 1 SBR approved. I was hoping to thread the stock USC barrel, but I've only ever had toolshops chop 18" barrels down to 16.5" crown, and thread. Has anybody threaded their factory USC barrel while keeping it >16" legal? Can you refer me to your shop please if so?

I used Tornado Technologies to cut my original USC barrel down and thread like my Mark 23 .45 so I could use my Knight OMG suppressor on it, too.
They did a great job and recommend them however, because they are good they are busy.

    Cool

I made the USC into a SBR and had the barrel cut down to 7". Here is a pic of it on the gun.

Ya, that's not what I was asking at all in the first post. Has anybody threaded their 16.5" barrel at 16+"? Is there enough room in that .5" to thread/crown it? Has anybody specifically done that in lieu of SBR'ing it or while waiting, and who did it so I can do it too please?

The length of the barrel includes the threading, so there shouldn't be a length issue unless you are also cutting it down...

I am by no means a NFA lawyer, or qualified bucket of knowledge on the subject. I do however have a knack to remember really random crap, albeit bits and pieces sometimes.

If memory serves, it's a problem with legality of threading the barrel, regardless of length, 922r or sporting clause something.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a 16" USC barrel threaded. They most likely exist, but I can't remember seeing one.

I'm sure the people that are more in the know will chime in.

Barrel length is measured from the crown to the bolt face in closed condition. Out of a receiver it doesn't matter.

I believe you are correct, the required number of Ameican parts would be required in order to add the evil threaded barrel.

    "Ameican parts" sounds interesting...
