Default Do I need proof that an HK91 from 1980 was imported Pre-ban?

    Hey all,

Looking to purchase an HK91 that is supposed to be from 1980. I've not bought an imported classic before and was curious to know if there should be any kind of paperwork or registration, like for an SBR or suppressor, to prove it's a legal pre-import? Just want to make sure I don't grab a non 922(r) compliant rifle!

    Thanks,
    Brian

All HK91s are pre import ban so not sure what you need? they should all be date coded on the receiver.

Thanks. I've never bought one before, so not looking for anything specific. I just didn't want to take it to the range and have someone ask me to prove it was a legit pre-ban and not a rebuilt one post ban - from what I understand if it's after 89(?) then it can only have 10 imported parts as per 922(r). Just trying to be thorough.

IA (date code) is your proof--- @KBAR04 is correct--- the HK911 and SR9 would be post-89!!!

You do not need proof, and it is OK to possess a non 922 gun anyway. Even if imported after 1990, that is a different issue than 922.

One more time... 922(r) is NOT a possession offense. 922(r) is a making/assembly offense. If you are not the maker/assembler, you are fine.
