    Default free-floating a 91.

Looking at how a PSG1/MSG is setup, and knowing the hand-guard hanger supports the hand-guard on a 91....what would be the negatives to removing the bottom loop from a 91 front sight-base, to free-float the barrel? Just thinking out loud..........

The bottom loop keeps it from being a free-float. The charging tube is connected to the barrel, thru the front sight. Pull the end-cap, and the charging tube moves with some pressure.

On the upper G3 the tube only goes into frontsight, in a much bigger hole and does not touch it.

Yes it could be more freefloat, but its sufficiently freefloat for bipods without to much force

When the end cap is inserted, it no longer really floats... as the cocking-tube doesn't compress when squeezed. I'm looking to optimize my rifle build, and I think there's room for improvement, that doesn't cost anything. The trunion is my biggest concern. This is the beast. I have a NOS SR9 barrel for it, and plan on other additions to make it a laser. It'll also be refinished, before completion.

The dust cover does not go deep enough to touch the cocking tube.

Which cocking tube support style do you have? I've only seen HK91s with the one at the top in the pic in post #4. They are already free-float. The handguard is pinned to the cocking tube support, the triple-frame is attached only to the barrel. The cap is retained in the middle loop of the triple frame, but doesn't touch the cocking tube support. The one in the bottom of the pic in post #4 is an old style used in the FMP G3s, but again, I've not seen an HK91 like that, I thought they were already changed to the tapered style by the time HK91s were imported.
