What ammo are you guys running threw your hk 91? I’ve been looking for a cheaper range ammo. I have seen people talking about using steel cased ammo but don’t know if I want to use that on this gun. Thanks in advance.

Best ammo I have used in the 91 was PMC 168 gr match ammo - was generally available about 10+ years ago and was priced right but I don’t think it is available anymore. I would love to know what today’s equivalent would be. Some of the hotter loads do not cycle right in an HK91 in my experience.

I'm a huge steel case ammo junky ... I don't reload, and I shoot a lot, so the $$$ cost can't be beat. I've shot tens of thousands of steel cased round in 9mm, 223 and 308 - never had a problem. Of the two brands you mention, I also prefer the bear stuff....seems a bit better made and is more consistent.

I shoot a lot thru my HK91's and FALs. No reloading going on here.

Always the best surplus NATO I can get my paws on. Non-corrosive. Brass case.

NFW will they taste steel case stuff, you guys are lucky.

A PTR or CETME is a different story, they're still making 'em.

For plinking away I use this: https://www.sportsmansguide.com/prod...unds?a=2157668
It's Brass cased, cheap, and berdan primed so I don't worry about reloading it, and best of all it works WITHOUT FAIL.

I been reloading for over 30 yrs. The only 308 that I reload are Tracer/ AP and API. The problem with reloading for the H&K is the grooves in the chamber, chews up brass pretty bad and being picky I just cant do it. I just buy new brass. Wolf 308 for $6 per 20rds is hard to beat. The same thing with the H&K 93

I have been still researching different possibilities for ammo. I ran a box of Winchester white box threw the gun but looking for something even cheaper to plink with. What steel cased ammo would be decent but not wear the barrel out to quick? I’ve heard some steel cased bullets are steel over lead instead of copper over lead and will wear the barrel out faster. I want to enjoy shooting the gun but not wear it out prematurely.
