For my money I recommend the HK claw/ 30mm set up with an older zeiss, hensoldt or S&H 1.5x6 vari / 30 mm tube. You will need to check eBay and GB regularly but they do come up. Not as expensive as the newer glass but still not cheap. The hensoldt and S&B will command a premium and I like my zeiss just fine.

Older glass goes have a classiness to it, and just looks right on HKs.

I don't know about the technical details of optics, but for practical function -- new Hensoldt glass is ridiculously better than the older stuff. Optics technology seems to me to be kind of like computer technology. Stuff from the 80s just isn't in the same league as stuff produced in the 2000s.

Collector value aside, you're better served with a newer scope.

Future: Done, until HK comes out with something new & nifty. Might start building an FNH collection.

I went with an S&B PM1 for the early 90s aesthetic.

Indeed. I bought two of those off eBay for $1K per, with provenance as used by the Spanish military snipers in the Middle East.

They were removed for optic upgrades by Accuracy International.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at a Fero Z24 old school set up, I think. And the eye relief should be good.

Z24's are the 'original' scope for the G3. The eye relief is perfect, and they go back to zero every time.

Made for years, many out there for $400 on up. Some have illuminator ports.

The only downside is they are 4X.

Hi all - I purchased a very nice FERO from a member here and the scope locks up perfectly. Pics are below.

One question - I think my rifle has been modified with the bipod mount on the front. It really helps with shooting, but does it detract terribly from the value to a collector?

    Thanks much - NMCollektor

The fore-end is definitely modified. To a collector looking for an otherwise unmolested SR9, this would probably detract a bit from the value. I wouldn't worry about it though, since you're shooting it anyhow.
