Default Is my bolt gap correct?

    Hello gang,

I know this has been discussed many times and I’ve read most of the threads on here about it. My questions is,

How snug or loose should the feeler gauge be to get a correct or close to correct reading?

    I can stick up to a .60mm and that’s tight. She won’t take a .65mm. Now a .45mm is snug and a .40mm is loose.

Derek from the HK shooting team has a really great video on this. Search you tube for Hk shooting with Derek and the video is titled “before your first trip to the range”. Hope this helps (noob here still on hyperlink probation).

Also under the HK Reference library on this forum there is a sticky titles HK bolt gap.

    Here's the video @Polaris47 mentioned.
I've heard it described in terms of feel as there should be some drag, but you should not be forcing the gauge into the gap. And as shown in the video, the gauge will likely stand up if you turn loose of it while it's in there.

Went to the range today and shot 500 rounds. Don’t know if everything settled in or not but from a .60mm feeler gauge being able to fit (tight) to now a .50mm not being able to fit at all. It’s nice and tight at around .47mm maybe a .48mm. All is well with the word if this to be true.

Out of the box my SP5 was dead-on in headspace measurement, as least as far as Derek's video described.

Mine had all sorts of problems. Had to get an RCM F style bolt carrier, RCM action 3 bolt head and everything else german HK. Today it had one double feed at the beginning of the 500 round dump. After that it was flawless.
