    Default Hk build question

Just want to make sure this is how the front of cocking tube should look. Cap is removed. So hk designed it with an open end? Thanks

Yup, that looks normal to me. It's a free floating barrel assembly.

So the very end of cocking tube doesn't touch the dust cap at all?

Nope, I just checked a demilled MP5 and there's about a few millimeters gap between the end of the cocking tube and the cap.

Its a free floating barrel system, cocking tube should not be touching triple tree or dust cap

Kind of weird but that is no contact with the cocking tube anywhere except it's welded to the hanger.

The hanger is welded to the cocking tube, its a free floating barrel, so the gap between the cocking tube and the triple tree is to ensure the cocking tube doesn't interfere with the natural barrel whip as the barrel reacts to rounds firing. While the hanger might touch the barrel resting on top, it doesnt have a significant interference, The early straight tube cocking tubes were found to affect accurracy which is why they changed the cocking tubes to the free float system.
