If you got the case from Bob, in Vegas it’s real. I bought a MP5SD case from him

Not him, but I know of whom you speak, a valued member here, and yeah he's solid!

Here is a pic of the sling. Aside from the metal fitting for the forearm the leather shoulder piece probably has something to do with the size of the
area in the case for the sling.

Thanks HkCHUCK, you wouldn't want to part with that sling by chance? You know, for scientific purposes.

Default MSG90 challenge, help me fill the box.

I like the sling idea but maybe the circle cutout has multiple purposes. When I first saw it, I thought it looked about the size required for the nylon pull through cleaning rod that shipped with many PSG1s. I don’t recall seeing one for sale in quite a while but it is similar to this well used one:

One can also be seen in the photos of a current GB auction:

The nylon rod doesn’t fit in an original PSG1 case very well but many PSG1s came with one. I could see the MSG90 having one as well.

Might be further clues on accessory equipment in the MSG90 maintenance manual. At least one of the various PSG1 manuals references the nylon rod.

    Thanks,
That's a good idea, I do have the maintenance manual somewhere, I will look and see if it is mentioned.

    MSG90 Maintenance Instructions
    Page 32, Item #8.
    Description: Cleaning rod (pull-through)
    Ident. No: 327894
    Remarks: “Delivery with each weapon”

The remark in the final column makes me think each MSG90 did generally ship with one.

For filling out the case, if it fits, I think the sling is likely the best purpose for that cutout. The cleaning rod has a mind of its own. Unless coiled and put away safely it can get bent and take memory easily. A lot of them that were stored in PSG1 cases have bends. Even if the MSG90 likely came with one, it’s not an accessory I’d chase down unless you’re going for completeness.
