I'm in the same boat also - was going to have igf do the barrel but was wondering if it's worth the extra $s to buy the hk parts kit and save the mr556 barrel. Seems like it might have some value and you could always go back if you wanted. Also, how hard is it to remove the factory barrel and install a new one? I've done plenty of lower builds but never messed with the barrel.

Easy peasy with the barrel / torque wrench, just like an AR.

Are people still happy with the HKPARTS 10.4" conversion? Not much info out there on this product. Doing the math, this makes more sense than the expensive and lengthy IGF conversion.

I just bought a conversion kit after getting notification they came back in stock. I’ll try to revive this thread and see if anyone else has experience with these kits or previous posters can chime in on longer term evaluations.

I bought the HK parts barrel for my MR556. The notches for the flip up sight were cut wrong, and wouldn't lock the factory HK sight in the down position. It flipped up every time I fired.

Turns out it's a Todd Bailey product.

Didn't realize it was a Bailey product. I'll probably just stick with my original plan of modifying the stock barrel. Thanks for the reply.

Look into Marvin Pitts w/Nefarious Arms. He chopped mine down to 14.5, reprofiled, recrowned and threaded, pinned on a titanium brake and had the barrel melonited all for less than $400 including shipping. He does great work. Took almost 4 months to get it back, but worth the wait.
    Because HK.

I would wager that the HK upper with work done by IGF will hold value better than the other product being mentioned.

If you just want a 10.4" that LOOKS like the 416, HKParts solution will get you there. Some of us wanted more authentic, without paying full 416-upper prices.
