Curious as to how is this pic different than an HK11?
    Thanks

The G8 was the designation of the 50rd. drum.
    The gun is a HK11/A1 or HK11E

    Here's the line-up, the best I've found over the last 2-weeks. Tomato-tomato.

This is a quote from the book Full Circle.

“The G8 and G8A1 are selective fire Gewehre based on the HK11A1 and HK21A1 LMG’s, with virtually the same design of quick-change heavy barrels housed in a robust extended receiver assembly of the HKA1. A number of optional features are available to enhance versatility, such as the standard 4 x 24 ZF (telescopic sight) assembly and a 50 round drum magazine. The G8 was available as either a magazine or belt-fed weapon, while the G8A1 was magazine read only.

Both are fitted with a special four-position fire selector mechanism (safe, single-shot, three round burst, automatic). A version of the G8 rifle is also available with a shortened fire selector lever and no buttstock, for use within the close confines of armored vehicles.

The G8 and G8A1 rifles also feature a silent operating positive bolt closure system and a spring loaded carry handle, which lies flat against the left side of the receiver when not in use. The rear sight, adjustable for windage and elevation from ranges of 100 to 1100 meters, is the same as that fitted to the HK11A1 and HK21A1 machine guns.”

The G8 was purpose built just like the G3 SG1.
The optional features as mentioned above is what designates the G8 and G8A1 configuration.

A small quote from the G8 und G8A1 service manual.

“Das Gewehr g8 wurde speziell für den Polizeibedarf entwickelt un entspricht Forderungen aus
    der Praxis....”

    Loosely translated
“The G8 rifle was specially developed for police needs and meets the requirements
    the practice.”

Here’s a couple photos from the booklet I have.

The reason the 50 round drum is known as the G8 is because it was an accessory for the G8 rifle.
I’ve never looked into them or owned one but I don’t believe they’re physically stamped G8?
